Celebrate Pepperoni Pizza Day with Fornetto!

Today it is Pepperoni Pizza Day! On the 20th of September we celebrate the most popular pizza ever created. We know it is easy to simply order a pizza and have it delivered right at your front door. But how nice is it to be a pizza-chef yourself?!

While pizza comes with many different toppings, pepperoni is the single most popular pizza. Whether you like your pizza Chicago Style or New York Style, thin and crispy or deep dish, top it with pepperoni!

According to legend, Raffaele Esposito created the first pizza in June of 1889. The Queen of Italy, Margherita of Savoy, inspired the pizza maker so much, he created the pie-shaped delicacy. In the queen’s honour, he named it Pizza Margherita and topped the pizza with tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella. The colours represent the Italian flag.

What do you need? (4 persons)

Let’s cook!

Step 1: Mix the sugar and yeast with the warm water and wait 10 mins.

Step 2: Take a bowl and add the flour and mix it with the salt. Make a well in the centre, pour in the yeast mixture, and ¾ of the oil, and stir to form a cohesive dough. Form a ball from the dough. Grease a bowl with the rest of the oil and place the dough ball in it. Cover with a clean tea towel and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

Step 3: Preheat the oven to 230 °C. Meanwhile, make the tomato sauce. Mix the tomato paste, onion powder and oregano together. Cut the onions into rings.

Step 4: Spread the tomato sauce over the top with the back of a spoon, leaving the edges free. Sprinkle with the mozzarella. Divide the pepperoni and onions on top.  Bake in the middle of the oven (or Fornetto Smoker). Bake the pizza on the pizza stone in 12 minutes until golden brown.

Step 5: Enjoy your freshly baked Pepperoni pizza!
